The Maratea Port, located on the Tyrrhenian stretch of the Basilicata, in the southern part of Policastro Gulf, represents the ideal destination for boaters that, on route for the Eolie islands and the southern Mediterranean, wish to make a stop at a storeroom for water and fuel supply, but also to enjoy a holiday, with trips along the beautiful coast full of Mediterranean vegetation, of creeks and ravines, visiting the historic center and the ancient village located on a hill about 630 m high, the Basilica of S. Biagio Protector and the 22 meter high statue of the Redeemer. Maratea, furthermore, offers boaters services and accommodation (Hotels, bathing establishments, restaurants and tourist agencies). The Basilicata is the land of the Agliano wine and of many good cheeses. Therefore, a trip in the production area is recommended and in the Pollino Park, a wide green lung, where you can enjoy a still intact nature, and with the park guides to see the last vestiges of Pino Loricato. A visit in the Matera Caves cannot certainly miss, UNESCO heritage town famous for its caves, inhabited since the Paleolithic.
